I initially trained as an actor at Birmingham School of Speech and Drama between 1989 - 1992 and was fortunate enough to have classes and rehearsals in this great building, as well as in the gardens in the summer.

I was also lucky enough to get an acting job straight out of college, playing the glamorous role of Podgy Pig, in a 9 month tour of Rupert and the Green Dragon, directed by David Wood. That's me on the far right - with padding at the time!

I then moved to London where I lived and worked for 3 years before deciding to launch my own theatre company. Having decided that London was a fairly saturated market, I decided to set up Rocket Theatre in Manchester.

It was a move that I decided I would make for 6 months or so, but almost 20 years later, I am still running the company in Manchester and now absolutely consider it my home. One of my main reasons for launching the company was to help promote my acting career, but in those early days I ended up acting in only one Rocket production, playing Birdboot in Tom Stoppard's The Real Inspector Hound.

Most of my time has been taken up with producing, fund-raising, marketing and directing - all of which I was learning on-the-job. Quite by accident I found that I had a talent and a passion for directing and was particularly keen on staging contemporary plays and commissioning completely new work. Favourite Rocket productions I have directed include, I Licked A Slag's Deodorant by Jim Cartwright, Dealer's Choice by Patrick Marber, Howie the Rookie by Mark O'Rowe, Cornered & Shamer both by Jim Burke, A Skull in Connemara by Martin McDonagh and The Censor by Anthony Neilson. The company has won several theatre awards, a dedicated audience, critical acclaim and increased funding over the years. This has enabled me to build adult drama classes alongside the theatre company and for me personally to direct productions for other theatre companies, drama schools and universities.

Rocket Theatre has it's own dedicated website at

Work I have directed outside of Rocket includes; The Gut Girls by Sarah Daniels, The Ash Girl by Timberlake Wertenbaker, a new adaptation of The Snow Queen by Peter Gallagher, Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, Edmond by David Mamet, Twelve Angry Men by Reginald Rose, Terrorism by The Presnyakov Brothers, Not About Nightingales by Tennessee Williams, Yerma by Federico Garcia Lorca and Blithe Spirit by Noel Coward.

I have also directed work in the corporate theatre sector and development work and workshops for colleges, North West Playwrights, the Northern Actors Centre and several youth theatres. I have also worked as a production manager, stage manager and project manager.

Since 2002 I have given one-to-one private tuition for professional actors and those trying to get into drama school or the business. This is on-going and further details can be found at

I still turn my hand to acting sometimes and in the last few years have appeared in The Three Musketeers, Dracula and The Crackpots (development piece) as well as various training videos and role-plays.

I am also currently performing in Oscar Wilde's 'Lord Arthur Savile's Crime', which I adapted from the classic short story.

I am happy to be approached by theatre companies and educational establishments looking for a director, anywhere in the UK, whilst I continue to work on developing projects of my own.

For details of any forthcoming projects please see here.
